THE owners of Wyndham Hall have confirmed that the community hub could be sold, but says reports about its future are "premature".
An action group has been formed to try and prevent the sale of the hall on Church Street, Amesbury.
Wyndham Hall Action Group said that news of the sale has come as "a complete shock, without an opportunity to discuss the proposal."
The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of St Mary and St Melor has told the Journal that it is "continuing to explore possibilities about its continuing ownership" of the hall.
It added: "These include the possibility of sale or lease to a third party."
'I am beyond disappointed'
Mark Verbinnen, town and Wiltshire councillor for Amesbury and Bulford, previously worked as manager at the hall.
He said: “I have a long history with the Wyndham Hall, and I am beyond disappointed to see that it will be for sale. My family has invested a lot of money and time in making the Wyndham hall a success.
"I do not believe the the decision is justified and although I am not a member, I support the Wyndham Hall Action Group in their campaign.”
The Venerable Alan Jeans, the Archdeacon of Sarum will chair a meeting of the PCC on Wednesday evening to discuss future options for the hall.
