WILTSHIRE Creative has a packed season of theatre, dance, music, comedy and live screenings lined up, running between June 8 to July 10.
The season runs at Salisbury Playhouse along with an outdoor seating offer, exhibition and the return of all workshops at Salisbury Arts Centre.
Following the government roadmap, it will be offering indoor performances again from June.
Theatre
Theatre performances include Living Spit’s Beauty and the Beast and Lewis Doherty’s WOLF, an adventure across a cyber-punk landscape.
Digital events include the premiere of audio drama from playwright Simon Butteriss with a star cast of film, TV, stage and Playhouse favourites.
Dance
Dance includes Rosie Kay with Absolute Solo II, a triple bill of solos performed by Rosie Kay herself, and performances from Lîla Dance with The Hotel Experience.
Live music
Live music includes the return of the Rock and Roll band The Boulevards, compulsively danceable rhythms from Bollywood Brass Band.
Singer, songwriter, cellist and composer, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, known for performances at the Royal Albert Hall, London and recently seen on the first night of the BBC Proms, also features in the new season line-up.
Family events
Family events include a magical visual story from Messy, complete with original music, puppets, tap dancing and a trip to the moon. Performed by a deaf and hearing cast.
Wiltshire Creative also sees the return of Strongwomen Science, revealing the secrets that lie behind circus tricks.
It’s a fun, lively and fast-paced circus show from the winners of a Fantastic for Families award, demonstrating how jugglers, acrobats and hula hoop artists use science to create their amazing acts.
SHIFT
From May 26, as part of the SHIFT programme there will be a hub at Salisbury Arts Centre to celebrate hundreds of young voices from across the South West in a free exhibition.
Comedy
Stand-up comedy comes from Mock the Week regular Ed Gamble and the return of the musical comedy duo Flo & Joan.
Screenings
Screenings include the 2020 film Misbehaviour based on an inspiring true story about Miss World in the 1970s, including stars Keira Knightley, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jessie Buckley and Keeley Hawes, and Socrates, a multi award-winning indie and LGBTQ film by award-winning director Alexandre Moratto.
Kinky Boots the Musical, filmed live at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End also struts its way onto the big screen at Salisbury Playhouse and as part of Engine Room 2021 there will be a film festival showcasing local filmmakers in the South West.
Exhibitions
From May 25, Wiltshire Creative will host Alternate Perceptions at Salisbury Arts Centre with work from artist Mahlia Amatina followed by an exhibition showcasing the talents of people in and around Wiltshire from July 13.
Workshops
Regular pottery, Stage 65 youth theatre, Youth Arts and workshops will also return to the arts centre.
