The courts continue to hear cases despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and national lockdown.

In the past week offenders have faced punishment for offences like smashing windows, assault and possessing illegal drugs.

Here are some of the cases heard by Salisbury Magistrates in the past week:

RHYS DENMAN, aged 21, of Earl’s Court, Lyneham, pleaded guilty to intentionally damaging a John Baker House window, Salisbury, on September 3 last year. He indicated a plea of guilty to possessing 11 grams of amphetamine. Denman was fined a total of £80 and was ordered to pay compensation of £80, a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £85.

JAKE EDMUNDS, aged 20, of Westfield Crescent, Yeovil, indicated a plea of guilty to possessing cannabis while in Salisbury on November 10 last year. He was fined £40 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and costs of £85.

LEE SAUNDER PICKETT, aged 27, of Randalls Croft Road, Wilton, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour while drunk in Salisbury’s Market Square on October 19 last year. He was fined £40 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £85.

JAMIE MICHAEL HARTLEY, aged 20, of Nursery Road, Salisbury, pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman by beating in Salisbury on February 3 last year. On the same day he intentionally damaged a mirror, wall and kitchen work tops belonging to the victim. Hartley was ordered to pay compensation of £500 and must carry out 120 hours of unpaid work. He must attend appointments and activities as instructed by an officer.

KELVIN WARNER, aged 25, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of intentionally using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour towards another, to either cause them to believe unlawful violence would be used against them, or to provoke them to use unlawful violence. The incident took place in Salisbury on July 21, 2019. Warner was committed to prison for 12 weeks suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122 and costs of £350, and must attend appointments and activities as instructed by an officer.

Heard at Swindon Magistrates:

JOSEPH BIDWELL, aged 26, of Telford Close, Newcastle Upon Tyne, pleaded guilty to driving in Mere without the appropriate licence or policy of insurance. The offences were reported on February 27 last year, when Bidwell was caught driving a Daewoo Kalos along Lynch Close. He was fined £40 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32. He was disqualified from holding a driving licence for six months.

LYUBOMIR ALEKSANDROV TOMOV, aged 34, of High Road, Benfleet, was found guilty of drink driving in Amesbury. On November 30, 2019, Tomov was driving an Audi along Great Amber Way with 54 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal alcohol limit. He was fined £800 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £80 and costs of £500. He was disqualified from holding a driving licence for 12 months.
