A CLASSIC MG sports car which spent years buried under a pile of rubbish will go under the hammer in April.
The Iris Blue 1960 MG A Roadster is expected to fetch between £8,000 and £12,000 after being discovered by Sherborne-based Charterhouse.
Auctioneers discovered it in a garage near Shaftesbury and it will go up for auction along with an album of photographs illustrating its restoration.
“It was always my dream as a schoolboy to go around the countryside looking for classic and vintage cars which have been locked away for years,” said Richard Bromell of Charterhouse.
“Although it rarely happens, there are still discoveries to be made such as this beautiful MG, although it took a long time to dig it out of the garage.”
The MG was barely visible underneath piles of wood, plastic, metal, baskets, petrol cans and aerosols.
It is thought it moved to the Dorset home around 50 years ago and has been loved and enjoyed by the three owners who all lived in the same cottage over the decades.
In the 1980s it underwent a programme of restoration but it doesn’t appear to have moved an inch in the 21st century.
The car was discovered when Charterhouse were instructed by the executor, first to carry out a formal valuation for probate, and then to clear the property.
“The classic car market continues to be strong, even during lockdown,” added Richard.
He said he believes there will be huge interest when the car goes up for auction at the Haynes International Motor Museum at Sparkford on April 11.
