More than 180 coronavirus patients are currently being treated at Salisbury District Hospital.

The figure of 188 was confirmed today (January 20) by Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

It is about four times the number of patients cared for during the first peak back in April.

In their latest update on the number of Covid patients and Covid-related deaths, the hospital also said three further deaths were recorded in the latest 24-hour period.

It brings the total number of deaths at the hospital since the pandemic began to 127.

A spokesperson from the hospital said: "As of 8.15am today there are 188 in patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

"Sadly, we can confirm that another three patients who had been cared for at Salisbury District Hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

"A woman in her nineties died on January 18.

"A man in his eighties and a woman in her nineties died on January 19.

"All patients had underlying health conditions.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the patients’ families and loved ones at this very difficult and distressing time.

"The total number of patients that have died at Salisbury District Hospital after receiving a COVID-19 positive test result is now 127."
