"Act as if you have the virus" is the message sent out by the leader of Salisbury City Council following the continued increase in cases and deaths in the city.

Patients ill with coronavirus are being admitted into hospital on a daily basis.

According to the latest figures, 135 inpatients have tested positive at Salisbury District Hospital.

A total of 103 patients have died because of Covid since the pandemic began.

Cllr Liz Sirman is asking everyone to continue to follow the rules, pointing out that doing so is "imperative".

She said: "The new Covid variant has meant that cases are increasing sharply.

"Please act as if you have the virus and follow the government’s restrictions.

"It is imperative that we all help the NHS by staying at home, we cannot allow Salisbury District Hospital to be overcome by cases."

The number of people with Covid-19 is rising rapidly.

There has been nearly 2,000 cases in the past seven days in Wiltshire, particularly in those aged 20-29.

The city council is reminding the public about the symptoms to look out for which include a high temperature, a new and continuous cough and a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste.

Anyone who experiences any of these symptoms should isolate and get a test as soon as possible.
