Hundreds of people have been paying tribute to the work of former police officer Nick Bailey who has today announced his departure from Wiltshire Police.
In a Twitter thread, Mr Bailey said that after 18 years he was forced to "admit defeat and accept that I can no longer do the job".
He cited the Salisbury poisonings of March 2018 and the impact they had on his mental health as the reason behind his decision, adding: "Although I’ve tried so hard to make it work, I know that I won’t find peace whilst remaining in that environment."
After announcing the news, hundreds rushed to post their messages of support and wish the former officer good luck with the future.
I wish you & your family all the luck & best wishes for your next chapter. Thank you for sharing your story - your decision took huge courage and if I may say, you are not defeated; you are a winner and you will succeed again however long & in whatever guise that takes.Take care

Former DS Bailey was one of the officers who inspected the house of Sergei Skripal after he and his daughter Yulia were poisoned with nerve agent Novichok in March 2018.
Mr Bailey himself fell ill after coming into contact with the substance but later recovered and returned to work.
