THE First World War aircraft hanger at Old Sarum Airfield has been sold to "transport and recycling specialists".
The Grade II listed building, named Distlock House, has been purchased by Guyatts of Salisbury. The quoted freehold price was £800,000.
Distlock House is a former World War I aircraft hangar used as a factory/workshop building. The building retains its original sliding hangar doors.
There are also two ancillary buildings providing office accommodation. On the southern side of the main building there is a lean-to extension with additional storage and workshop space.
Myddelton & Major Partner Dean Speer said: “Guyatts metal merchants was founded in 2012 by husband and wife team Roy and Lynda Guyatt, to run alongside their already successful haulage business Guyatts of Salisbury crane assisted haulage.
“The Guyatts name has long been synonymous with metal recycling and the business is fully licensed to buy all types of metals, ferrous and non-ferrous, and even batteries at Salisbury’s fully equipped recycling centre. They also specialise in transport and crane assisted haulage.”
Plans to wholly restore the another hangar at the airfield, in addition to the building of around 460 homes and a 'flying hub', were previously refused by Wiltshire Council, before Old Sarum Airfield lost a High Court Appeal, and then launching further legal action against the council.
