THE flat where Novichok victim Dawn Sturgess fell ill is to be demolished, the Journal can reveal.

Housing provider Stonewater confirmed, after coming to an agreement with Wiltshire Council, that two flats in Muggleton Road, Amesbury, are to be knocked down.

Ms Sturgess, who died as a result of the nerve agent attack of March 2018, fell ill at one of those addresses.

In a letter to nearby residents seen by the Journal, the company confirms the plan to demolish two flats that "have been empty and semi-derelict for some time".

The letter adds: "I'm pleased that a way forward has now been agreed - both flats will be demolished and we're looking at providing two additional homes at an alternative site, so there will be no loss of affordable housing in the local area."

Dawn Sturgess, 44, died on July 8, 2018 after coming into contact with the nerve agent which was used to poison former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

Her partner Charlie Rowley who was also poisoned, survived.

A date for the demolition of the flat where she fell ill is yet to be fixed, however the letter suggests this could start in early July or early August.

A consultation is now underway to decide what to do with the site, which could be turned into a car park or a green space, once the works are complete.

Confirming the news, a spokesperson from Stonewater said: "I can confirm that the plan is for those flats to be demolished."
