A MYSTERY man has treated an entire village near Salisbury to a free fish and chips supper.
On Friday May 15, all residents in Odstock were able to enjoy a free dinner thanks to the generosity of a local resident who does not wish to be identified.
The Yew Tree Inn, which provided the meals, said the anonymous benefactor contacted them earlier last week to inform them of his plan.
Owner Gordon Morison said: "He gave me a call and said he wanted to do something nice for the village and that he was going to buy everyone fish and chips."
The following days, a total of 197 vouchers were printed and delivered door to door and on Friday, 269 meals were distributed.
"Everyone was really grateful and really surprised," added Gordon, who says every day he receives questions from residents keen to know who paid for all their meals.
Lee Osborne, one of the residents who got to enjoy the free dinner, said: "My family of four enjoyed fish, chips, battered sausage and fried halloumi! It tasted amazing so thank you to the Yew Tree and to our mysterious benefactor!"
