THIS year's Fabulous Family Fun Day in aid of Salisbury Hospice has been cancelled but donations are still be invited to support the charity.
The annual event, which is in memory of Lyn Futcher, who died of breast cancer in November 2013, had been due to take place on May 9.
The Fabulous Family Fun Day Committee said: "It is with great sadness that we are announcing the cancellation of the Fabulous Family Fun Day this year. The ongoing COVID-19 crisis means that we cannot run the event in good conscience, knowing that so many people being together on the day runs the risk of spreading the virus. The good health of the attendants of the Fun Day will always be our priority."
The committee want the public's help to raise as much money as possible for Salisbury Hospice Charity.
The statement continued: "Unfortunately, the cancellation of the Fun Day means that the Salisbury Hospice will be losing out on thousands of pounds that we were hoping to raise this year. The hospice needs to raise £1.5 million every year to fund the unbelievable support it provides to patients with terminal illnesses, as well as their families.
"Therefore, we are now appealing for donations from our wonderful and generous community - the community which has helped to support the Hospice since we began fundraising six years ago. Our goal is to raise as much money as we possibly can to support the Hospice through this incredibly hard time.
"Perhaps if you were planning on attending the Fun Day this year, you could donate just the cost of one drink you would have bought on the day (around £3). Of course we will be incredibly grateful for any donation, no matter how big or small it is.
"Thank you so much to everyone who had already committed to supporting the event this year, we remain extremely grateful. Rest assured, the Fabulous Family Fun Day will return next year, and it will be bigger and better than ever.
"Finally, we want to take the opportunity to send our love and best wishes to everyone who is struggling through this incredibly difficult period. Stay strong, stay safe, and stay positive. We will all get through this together."
