A STRIKE is taking place in the heart of Salisbury today, as students once again leave school bearing banners to campaign for climate action.
Around 50 pupils came to Guildhall Square this morning as members of protest group Youth Strike for Climate Salisbury, to raise their concerns for the planet through chants and a march.
Members of the Green Party, Extinction Rebellion Salisbury, Salisbury and District Trades Union Council and Salisbury Community Energy were also taking part in the action.
Protests in the city began in March last year, as pupils wanted to send a message to the government to take more immediate action on climate change, both in the UK and globally.
Today's march is part of a nationally planned strike date, meaning pupils from around 100 schools have missed lessons this morning to take part in protests and marches across the UK.
The Journal was told that to help mark the one-year milestone of striking for climate, in both Salisbury and the UK, members from Bath Youth Climate Alliance and Bradford-on-Avon Youth Strike for Climate are also in the city today taking part.
