STORM CIARA is expected to bring strong wind and rain to the UK on Sunday - with Salisbury no exception.
There is a yellow warning for wind in Salisbury on Sunday, and the Met Office say Storm Ciara will bring very strong winds and potentially some disruption to travel throughout Sunday.
Sunday will be stormy with heavy showers or longer spells of rain throughout the day, and disruptive winds are likely at times.
It will remain very windy on Monday.
Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible, according to reports, as well as damage to buildings.
What to expect:
- Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible
- Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
- Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen
- Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
- Some roads and bridges may close
- Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
Groundwater flooding in the Salisbury Plain area.
Government warnings say flooding is also possible.
The warning says groundwater levels remain high, but have steadied over the last few days, with a reduced risk of flooding as a consequence.
The forecast for the next week is mainly dry, which means that the improving situation will continue.
The risk of local groundwater flooding remains, and precautions should be maintained for the next few days.
Severe disruption is also expected across the Network Rail Southern Region on Sunday.
As a result of the potential danger from fallen trees and other debris landing on the railway, a 50mph speed restriction on trains has been planned to cover every line, which include lines heading to the coast from London Waterloo, London Victoria, London Charing Cross and London Bridge.
This will be in place from 11am until 7pm and disruption is expected to last at least until the end of the day and potentially into Monday morning too. Passengers are urged to check before they travel on both days.
Operators affected include Southern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express, Southeastern and South Western Railway.
Passengers are advised to check southwesternrailway.com/disruption before they travel for the latest service information.
