A SHAFTESBURY man is embarking on an 85-mile run to raise money for the Stars Appeal

Kevin Aston, 37, is running from Stonehenge to Big Ben, on the day of this year's Summer Solstice.

He will set off from the stones at sunrise on June 20, which will be around 5am, is hoping to reach the clock by sunset the same day - around 9pm that night.

On why he decided to take on this challenge, Kevin said: "The Stars Appeal is a great cause. I was born in Salisbury District Hospital, both of my children were born there too.

"I loved the idea of running on summer solstice day again as being at Stonehenge previously for the sunrise was magical, and this time I wanted to start there and Big Ben felt like the perfect destination."

Salisbury Journal:

In training for the run, Kevin is hitting around 200 miles a month.

Kevin added: "The training is tough, but its going well.

"There will be more runs and challenges between now and the big run which will help me prepare.

"I've always dabbled with running, but never got serious about it until January of 2019 when I realised at the age of 36 that it was now or never.

"In April last year, I completed my first half marathon in Bournemouth, then in May I completed my first marathon in Southampton.

"I also completed my first trail ultra marathon of 50k at Salisbury 54321 in August.

"But the bug for running big distances has well antrulyly bitten and I knew I had to come up with a bigger and better challenge than what I had done before."
