A BILLBOARD aiming to highlight "hypocrisy and lies" of pro-Brexit politicians has appeared in Wilton.
The poster, in West Street, depicts a Tweet from former UKIP leader Nigel Farage that reads: "In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way," dated May 16, 2016.
But a quote below reads: "He didn't tweet it, he actually said it! To the Daily Mirror before the referendum. What changed?"
The billboard is the work of guerilla protestors, four friends who started a movement called Led by Donkeys, who say they "wanted to highlight the hypocrisy of our politicians on Brexit".
Billboards in other towns and cities include statements from Jacob Rees-Mogg, Michael Gove and Dominic Raab, as well as Prime Minister Theresa May.
On a crowdfunding page for the movement, they write: "Armed with ladders, roller brushes and a treasure trove of damning statements by our leaders, we slapped up their biggest lies onto posters around the country.
"So we’re proposing to do something different: to turn this guerrilla operation into one of the biggest people-funded billboard protests this country has ever seen.
"We all have family, friends and loved ones who voted Leave. Many of them believed the words of these politicians. By putting up their quotes as billboards we can all compare the promises made with reality.
"Let's cut through today's chaos by showing our fellow citizens that this Brexit failure was founded on lies and hypocrisy."
The group, which aim to raise about £1,000 to pay for a single billboard, have so far received £151,026 in donations from members of the public.
