THE Indian Community of Salisbury (ICS) celebrated the Hindu festival of lights at Coombe Bissett Hall on Saturday.
More than 200 people marked Diwali, which signifies the victory of good over evil, and was attended by Mayor of Salisbury, Andrew Roberts and MP John Glen.
The event was opened by the guests with a welcome address by Harshad Dabke, chairman of ICS.
There was a Bollywood dance workshop by Rakhi Sood and two Indian traditional cookery shows by Demi Ladwa, who demonstrated the cooking of onion bhaji and chicken curry. There was also Mehndi, photography with Indian costumes, Indian food and drinks stalls.
The event ended with a fireworks display and organisers said they planned to run the event again next year.
