A British woman is typically charged more for a car repair than her male counterpart, ClickMechanic.com reported. This conclusion came via its nationwide survey of 182 independent garages in 10 cities. Mystery shoppers – 1 male and 1 female – asked each garage for a quote to replace the clutch on a 2011 Ford Focus. On average, the woman was quoted £616 compared to £571. The variation was an additional £45 (+8%). This “female premium” was present in 8 out of 10 cities whereas the male shopper was quoted more in 2 out of 10. Oh dear.
