A BODY has been discovered in a car in the New Forest. 

A wooded parking area off the A35 near Burley has been closed while officers examine the vehicle.

Two police cars and two police vans are at the scene. Uniformed officers have been joined by at least one forensics expert.

Police have confirmed they were called at 7.30am this morning to a report of a body at the Vinney Ridge car park on Lyndhurst Road in Burley.

A spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious and they were in the process of informing next-of-kin.

The body was discovered in a grey car in the Vinney Ridge car park.

It has now been removed from the vehicle and is being examined by police officers, who are also taking photographs of the scene.

The road past the car park has been reduced to a single carriageway by the presence of police vehicles parked by the verge.

Drivers on their way to and from Burley are slowing down to watch the police operation in progress.

The car had been reversed into a parking space and was facing the road when the discovery was made.
