THE secrets of Old Sarum and Stonehenge were revealed in a new ITV series.
Old Sarum and Stonehenge, two of Wiltshire's greatest historic treasures, are the focus of forthcoming episodes of the series Secrets from the Sky.
The series takes to the skies and with the help of an octocopter - a remote controlled helicopter carrying a camera - explores historic landmarks from a bird's eye view.
Old Sarum and Stonehenge have been chosen alongside Tintagel Castle, Maiden Castle, Sutton Hoo and The Antonine Wall to feature in the six episodes.
The first episode on Friday saw historian Bettany Hughes and aerial archaeologist Ben Robinson explore the secrets of Old Sarum.
It was formerly one of the most important cities in Britain - the site where Saxon kings produced their money, where William the Conqueror flaunted his victory over King Harold and the Domesday Book was created. The episode will investigate how the once prosperous city has developed into the largely abandoned ruin of today.
In the next episode tomorrow, the programme will explore the mysteries of Stonehenge. With the help of views captured from the sky, Bettany and Ben will delve into the mysteries of the stone circle's meaning and purpose.
Last Friday's episode on Old Sarum can be viewed on ITV Player.
