The summer holidays are coming to an end, the kids are going back to school, time to get your own sports kit back out and get back into your workouts.

Going back to school after the summer can take children a couple of weeks to get used to their routine again but also parents can find it difficult to get back into their workout routines that went astray during the summer break.

Local health and fitness expert Angela Ross (44) from Physique Boot Camp has a few top tips on how to put the summer lull behind you and get back into your fitness regime without too much pain.

“Once you get out of that habit of pulling on your trainers it can be extremely difficult to get back into your exercise regime but there are ways to make the transition easier for anyone who’s had a break from regular exercise and want’s to kick-start their workout programme again.”

Don’t Focus On The Negatives

You’ve just had break from exercise and you’re probably a little nervous about getting back to it. Those first few sessions you might notice that you’re not as strong as you were or you tire quicker but don’t get disheartened. Use the first few weeks back to build up your strength and endurance, set yourself a personal goal for the 6 week mark and channel all your positive energy into achieving that.

Nourish Your Body

Nutrition and exercise go hand in hand but during the summer break most of us take our foot off the gas a little and let our hair down. Whether you’ve been abroad, sampling the local cuisine or had too ice creams, just have to draw a line under it and plan your healthy meals for the week. Planning is key when it comes to eating healthy, so stock up on nutritious foods such as protein, veggies, fruits and nuts

Hydration Is Key

The school break may be over but the summer heat will still be around for a few weeks yet so it’s imperative to stay hydrated before, during, and after your workout. Aim to drink a litre of water for every 50lbs you weigh, more if it’s very hot weather
