LOCAL units are busy at home and abroad. The Kings Royal Hussars from Tidworth are in Canada as the Lead Armoured Battlegroup and have just deployed on a 36 day exercise with 1,300 soldiers and 500 vehicles.
Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Justin Kingsford said that this will be the biggest exercise that many of his officers and men will have ever undertaken.
HQ 1 Armoured Infantry Brigade held a tactical actions study period for all platoon commanders and warrant officers upwards and has been followed by the brigade headquarters deploying onto the Plain on Exercise Primoris Staff 3, which is a part of the HQ training progression.
3 Armoured Engineer Squadron of 22 Engineer Regiment have deployed in the field (Salisbury Plain) to familiarise themselves with low level tactics and have completed an insertion march and field craft skills with section attacks.
Colonel Bill Wright, late of the Rifles, has been selected to replace Brigadier Rupert Jones, also late of the Rifles, as commander of the 1st Armoured Infantry Brigade from August in the rank of brigadier.
Colonel Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, Late Gen List, to replace Brigadier Simon Brooks-Ward, Late RY, as assistant commander, 3rd (UK) Division in Bulford from January 2015 in the rank of Brigadier. Many may recognise this name; Alistair is the royal and special events commentator for Sky News.
Finally, the KRH are, for the second year running, the inter-regimental polo champions.
A convincing win over the Household Cavalry Regiment in the semi-final and a victory over the Royal Navy in the final saw the KRH raise the trophy at the Guards Polo Club on Sunday, July 13.
The team, led by Capt George Walker (B Sqn), and consisting of Capt (Retd) Phillip Kaye, Capt Robert Freeman-Kerr and Col Nick Hunter, beat the RN 8- 5 and showed once again that The King's Royal Hussars are masters of their craft.
