OUR scheduled speaker was unable to attend the last meeting due to illness.

Instead we were delighted to welcome Beverley Barter from Beverley’s Creative Cakes.

She is well known locally having had a shop in Downton for many years.

She explained that she had realised that it was time for a change of direction in her business. So, she sold her shop and moved to more spacious premises in Redlynch where she can hold courses and workshops and better display her goods.

Beverley brought along some samples of her work.

Her demonstration was how to make a lily from sugar paste. Her work was detailed and precise as each delicate component took shape until the whole flower was completed.

What patience.

As she worked, Beverley told us about the history behind her business and how she had developed it.

She answered numerous questions from an audience fascinated by her skilful creation.

The next meeting will be held at Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls’ Village Hall on Wednesday, April 10 at 2.15 pm.

This will be our annual meeting when the new committee is elected, the financial statement and budget are presented and the report of the last year’s activities presented.

In addition, there will also be surprise entertainment.

Books will be on sale at the trading table.
