PROTESTORS angry over plans to remove parking from the Market Place in Salisbury knitted their way through a council meeting on Thursday.
The group, Knitters 4 Justice, are concerned at the removal of disabled parking spaces, which will instead be provided in other town centre locations.
Wearing red, they knitted ‘red tape’ throughout the Salisbury Area Board meeting. Group spokesman Helen Farmer said: “We are highlighting the scale at which Wiltshire Council is ignoring the red tape that’s there to protect disabled people.
“We are representing quite a lot of other people not well enough to be here – it’s not about wants but needs.
“Health permitting, we intend to have a presence at every meeting.”
The council is revamping the Market Place, putting in new surfacing, creating more open space and removing parking. A spokesman for Wiltshire Council said that no disabled parking spaces would be removed until alternative spaces are in place.
