WHITSBURY horse trainer Marcus Tregoning believes his passion and fascination for riding has rubbed off on his family, especially teenage son George.

Tregoning moved to Whitsbury Manor Stables, near Fordingbridge, last month with his wife Arabella and four children, Alice, Peter, Jessie and George.

The 53-year-old moved from Lambourn, where he spent the past 15 years.

“It’s fantastic here,” he said.

“People have been so friendly and we could not have had a better welcome, so far so good.

“It’s almost like starting again. All the horses’ owners have been very supportive and hopefully I will attract more if things go well.

“My family have settled in well and they enjoy riding, especially my 14-year-old son, George, who is very keen on it and may pursue a career in horsing or something along those lines, like veterinary.”

Tregoning, who trained Derby winning horse Sir Percy in 2006, has 40 horses which train on the gallops, including Bronze Angel, Boom and Bust and Askar Tau.

Among the trainers at the Whitsbury yard, which has a proven track record for legendary horses, such as Desert Orchid, is Daniel Kubler.

Tregoning added: “Whitsbury has got such a great history and outstanding gallops.

“At the time I was looking to move, the owner of the stables Chris Harper approached me and I haven’t looked back since.

“I’m sure we will do really well here, it’s early days yet. I’ve trained horses all over the world and I will certainly be keeping an open mind.

“I’m looking forward to the future here and what can be achieved.”

Tregoning also says he will run whatever he possibly can at Salisbury Racecourse.

“Salisbury is such a lovely track and we’re very lucky to have it on our doorstep. I’ll try and run whatever I can there.”
