THE Salisbury Farmers’ Market has moved to the historical trading heart of the city.

Traders can now be found at the Poultry Cross in a move partly prompted by impending works to the Market Place as well as a desire for a more compact location that better suits the size and range of stalls the market attracts.

The market will also be held on every Wednesday from May, rather than the first and third Wednesday of the month as it has been previously.

With so many popular weekly markets in Salisbury it is difficult for people to remember one that pops up irregularly” said Sue Thomson, Wiltshire Farmers' Markets administrator.

“We already have new producers interested in coming to the market and a number of previous traders hoping to return. It will be really important to make connections with local people and organisations so, in the longer term, we're hoping to employ someone local to help us manage the market.”

Salisbury Farmers' Market offers freshly picked vegetables, a range of meats, meat products, poultry, freshly caught fish and crabs (weather permitting), cheese, cider, breads, preserves and baked goods. Food-to-go will soon be added to the range of stalls and seasonal plant growers and fruits are expected to return later in the year.

Everything on offer at the market comes from Wiltshire and nearby counties and is sold by the producer or someone closely involved with the business. The next market events will be Wednesdays, March 20, April 3 and 17, and then weekly from May 1.
