A PRIMARY school choir that entered a national competition involving more than 150 schools was one of 18 to go through to the final and sing at the Barbican.

Downton Primary School sent off a DVD of two songs as part of the Barnardo's National Choir Competition.

They were then invited to take part in the final last Monday, singing Truly Scrumptious from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and When I grow up from Matilda.

Downton School Choir director Becky Arch said: “Unfortunately we didn't win, but the children did Downton proud and were absolutely amazing.”

The choir, which sang at the Barnardo's concert at Salisbury Cathedral last month, was formed four years ago and has 46 members. They are now preparing for their next event, which takes place on July 6 at St Thomas's Church in Salisbury, where they will perform with St John's Singers.
