SMOKERS in Salisbury are being encouraged to “swap fags for swag” on the 30th anniversary of No Smoking Day.

This year smokers are being encouraged to focus on what they could afford to buy if they were to quit for a day (saving £7), a week (£49), a month (£210) and a year (£2,555).

No Smoking Day was yesterday and smokers in Salisbury can get help putting out their cigarettes for good today with a free health MOT assessment from Wiltshire Public Health’s Stop Smoking Service.

The health event is from 11am to 5pm at Churchfields Industrial Estate on Telford Road where health professionals will be available to offer advice and information.

The health campaign, run by the British Heart Foundation, helped more than 760,000 people across the UK quit smoking last year.
