AN archaeological dig in Amesbury has been pipped by the discovery of Richard III in a Leicester car park in the prestigious Dig of the Year competition.
Vespasian’s Camp, where thousands of Neolithic artefacts have been discovered, was entered into the Current Archaeology competition and received a large number of public votes.
But it was beaten by Richard III being unearthed last year, which attracted worldwide interest.
