THE February 10 meeting was the nine-sheet competition and members’ other hobbies.

The competition entries were judged for each class by the members present indicating their first and second choices.

There were three entries in the General Philatelic class: Tanganyika giraffe design on postal stationery; postal labels 1840- 61 from ten European countries and states; and use of official stamps by Natal Government Railways.

The winner was Tony Howgrave-Graham.

In Aerophilately-Transatlantic Airmail Services, Uganda Airspace 1931-4 covers were judged first for Brian Cartwright.

The Cinderella class saw Hamburg local posts, originals and reprints won by Alan Wood.

Social Philately – Royal British Legion, covers, stamps and photos: British greetings telegrams 1935- 78 were first for Paul Latham-Warde.

Thematic – stamps of Canada’s First Nation; GB pennies, black, red, Venetian red and lilac; reverse side watermarks, adverts, GB stars, Latvia banknotes and maps, barbed wire on stamps, first for Paul Latham- Warde.

Postal history – French Colonial eagle stamps on cover, varying rates of return to sender covers 1895-1968. French republican calendar, New South Wales/Victoria Riverina combination covers and NSM/South Australia cross-border post, first for David Ashby.

The overall winner was Tony Howgrave-Graham.

Ten members also showed their other hobbies.

On March 13 the meeting will be with Jean and Crawford Alexander with Heads and Tails.
