We’re incredibly lucky in Salisbury to have the Playhouse, and an array of excellent performances organised by Wiltshire Creative, but every now and again there is a show that goes above the (already very high) benchmark set by our local theatre - and Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense is one of them, writes Benjamin Paessler.
The very small cast - only three of them, in fact - did an outstanding job of conveying the silliness of the plot and the very different personalities of all the characters. It’s impossible to single out a favourite character or performer from the evening, because they should all be commended.
The costume changes were impressively fast, the set was simple but effective and the script fantastic. The audience was laughing out loud throughout the entire performance.
Our party included devoted Wodehouse fans and relative newcomers to the world of Jeeves and Wooster, but all enjoyed it immensely. My only negative feeling about the night was sadness that it had to end, and I would encourage anyone who does not already have tickets to go and get some today.
Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense is at Salisbury Playhouse until September 23.
Relaxed, BSL and Captioned Performance, September 19 at 7:30pm, and Audio Described and Touch Tours on September 21 at 2:15pm and 7:30pm.
Tickets from £13, go to wiltshirecreative.co.uk/events/jeeves-wooster-in-perfect-nonsense.
