TWO hugely talented young singers from Cape Town will be the stars of a Come and Sing workshop and a concert in Salisbury being organised by the Fezeka Scholarship Fund.
Monde Mdingi and Nokwanda Bovana came to Salisbury from Cape Town with the Fezeka High School Choir two years ago to take part in the International Arts Festival with Salisbury Community Choir.
They are now studying music at university, sponsored by the Fezeka Scholarship Fund, an independent charity which began life as an offshoot of the Community Choir.
The fund has organised a workshop with the duo, led by SCC musical|director Jeremy Backhouse, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, July 3 at St Elizabeth Hall in Exeter Street, followed by a concert that evening in St Thomas’s Church at 7.30pm, in which Monde and Nokwanda will also perform individually.
The music includes Bob Chilcott's Little Jazz Mass and The Making of the Drum, and tickets, costing £15 (singers) or £8 (concert), are available from Salisbury Playhouse on 01722 320333. All the money raised will go to the scholarship fund.
During their fortnight’s stay in Salisbury the|students will also sing with the all-female choir Babes & Ballads, and Monde will run workshops for pupils at Broad Chalke Primary School.
