HARPIST Katie Flanaghan is guest soloist for Sarum Voices’ performance of Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols on Saturday.
Katie, pictured, whose home is in Salisbury, is a former chorister at Salisbury Cathedral, and a member of Sarum Voices, and four weeks ago took on an exciting new role with her appointment as marketing and development co-ordinator for Salisbury International Arts Festival.
“I am very happy to be here,” says Katie, who decided that marketing was the career she wanted to follow after a four-month internship at Salisbury Cathedral. This was not her first career choice as since the age of 12, Katie had wanted to be a professional harpist. “After school at Godolphin in Salisbury, I studied harp at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 2008. But I started thinking about my future following my engagement to be married and this opportunity came at a perfect time.”
But Katie is definitely not giving up her harp. “I will still be performing as I enjoy chamber music and playing with other musicians, as well as teaching.”
Saturday’s concert is in St Martin’s Church, Salisbury and starts at 7pm.
Tickets priced £10 are available from the Playhouse box office and at the door.
