BALLET lovers will be delighted to learn that English National Ballet returns to Southam-pton’s Mayflower Theatre next month to perform the classical ballet, Giselle and a world premiere production featuring only the male dancers of the company.

Men Y Men has been choreographed by Wayne Eagling and promises to showcase the prestigious talent of the male dancers in the company.

Athletic and acrobatic, the work will be performed to music from Rachmaninov.

Giselle is the haunting tale of a peasant girl’s innocent love for the handsome Duke Albrecht and her subsequent betrayal, casting the characters into the realm of madness and the supernatural.

The ballet was first performed in Paris in 1841 and was last seen at the Coliseum, English National Ballet’s home, in 2007. One of the most dramatic and challenging roles in the ballet repertoire, Giselle will feature some of the company’s rising stars as well as principal dancers.

Giselle will be accompanied by the company’s symphony orchestra led by Gavin Sutherland and is being performed from November 11 to 15.
