SALISBURY violinist Marian Givens (pictured) is guest soloist next Saturday at Salisbury Sinfonia’s concert in St Thomas’s Church in the city.
Marian is both a performer and a teacher on the violin and will be soloist on Bruch’s popular and romantic Violin Concerto No 1. The concert will open with Sir Michael Tippett’s Divertimento on Sellinger’s Round, written in 1954, and end with Brahms Symphony No 1.
Tim Murray will conduct the Sinfonia and tickets are available in advance from Cross Keys Bookshop or on the door on the night.
CHAMBER music by Beethoven, Britten and Borodin will be performed by the Eberle Quartet next Friday at St Laurence’s Church in Downton.
All four string players (Daphne Moody on violin, Jennifer Gibbs on violin, Moira Alabaster on viola and Muriel Daniels on cello) are members of Sarum Orchestra, Salisbury’s only professional orchestra. The quartet’s name is taken from the leader’s violin, which was made in Naples by Tomaso Eberle.
Next Friday’s concert is a precursor to the quartet’s forthcoming concerts on board the Saga Rose for its farewell voyage, and is at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at £10 on the door to include a glass of wine.
VIOLINIST Andrew Fisher will lead a string quartet in a variety of works dating from the 15th to the 21st century at Salisbury Chamber Music Club on Saturday.
The club meets at the United Reformed Church in Fisherton Street at 7.30pm and tickets are £3 on the door.
CHORAL singers are invited to a Come and Sing performance of Brahms Requiem next Saturday at St John’s Church in Tisbury.
The event has been organised by Winterbourne Opera and the Requiem will be sung in English. Soloists Ben Davies and Julie Cooper are both members of the prestigious choir, The Sixteen, Gramophone magazine’s artists of the year.
Anyone interested in taking part should contact David Davies (01722 714440) for more details, but should know that the rehearsal on the day will begin at 2pm.
