IN the intimate atmosphere of the candlelit Medieval Hall, singing teacher Simon McEnery and his students put on a memorable evening’s entertainment.
The programme opened with a haunting Norwegian folk tune, Castle In The Sky, sung from the balcony by Rosie Clay. There followed a selection of dramatic excerpts from the classics including Mozart, Verdi and Dvorak, ending with Senza Mamma from Puccini’s Suor Angelica, movingly sung by Jane Ferguson.
The second half was lighter in tone, and was launched by the four-man Per Sempre, with their own arrangement of the Westlife hit You Raise Me Up. Then came a selection of songs from the shows, such as Send In The Clowns, sung by Jane Waddington, and I Am Changing, from Dreamgirls, performed by Olivia Hodgson.
Money raised from the concert will help the work of the Douglas Arter Centre, which offers adults with disabilities a variety of sensory and therapeutic sessions and outdoor activities.
