JOHN Lill, CBE, one of Britain's most acclaimed pianists, with an international reputation to keep him much in demand, is giving the inaugural Edward Heath memorial piano recital in Salisbury Cathedral next week.
Having recently celebrated his 60th birthday with a series of concerts throughout the UK, John, pictured, will perform a programme of music that includes Mozart's Sonata in F, K332, Schumann's Carnival de Vienne, Opus 26 and Beethoven's Sonata in F minor, Opus 57, Appassionata.
Tim Hone, head of liturgy and music at Salisbury Cathedral, says: "We are delighted that a significant donation has allowed us to establish a prestigious annual piano recital as a memorial to Sir Edward Heath.
"We are honoured that John Lill, a pianist greatly admired by Sir Edward, will give the first recital. His playing combines virtuosity with complete integrity. He is particularly admired for his interpretations of the core repertoire of the instrument."
Tickets for the recital, which takes place next Saturday, February 16, are available from Salisbury Playhouse box office.
