CLASSICAL music fans can enjoy a new piece from Salisbury Chamber Chorus on Good Friday.

The group will perform Simon McEnery’s Requiem, which features the traditional Latin Requiem texts interspersed with poems by Walt Whitman, Henrik Ibsen and Thom Gunn, among others.

The Requiem is a quieter, smaller scale work than The Resurrection, which the group performed at St Thomas’s Church last year, but has the same mix of the theatrical and tuneful, which aims to sit comfortably with other contemporary religious choral music.

Two guest soloists will join the chorus for the concert.

Salisbury-based mezzosoprano Susan Mackenzie- Park has sung all over the world as well as in BBC and Classic FM broadcasts and on recordings.

And popular harpist Katie Salomon has performed with artists as diverse as McFly and Aled Jones.

The concert will also feature four of Gesualdo’s rich and intriguing Tenebrae pieces for the Holy Week liturgies.

McEnery will be conducting the performance at St Thomas’s Church from 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10 and are available from Salisbury Playhouse on 07122 320333 or at salisburyplayhouse.com.
