THEATRE and circus arts combine to tell the story of immigration at the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton this week.

The Arrival, which is based on a graphic novel by Shaun Tan, tells the story of Dele as he leaves Nigeria and embarks on a voyage where he meets strangers carrying their own stories of upheaval, struggle and hope.

The tale then moves to the present day, when Dele is an old man being looked after by his carer at an inner city hostel, reflecting on the past and the journey he has made.

The show is a collaboration between award-winning theatre company Tamasha and Circus Space, one of Europe’s leading providers of circus education.

The multi-lingual, multicultural cast of eight show off a variety of skills, including the Chinese pole, corde lisse and slack rope, as they fuse music, theatre and circus.

n The Arrival will be at the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton from today until Saturday. Tickets are £10.50 to £19 and are available on 02380 315500 or at nuffieldtheatre.co.uk.
