FILMS made in some of the most dangerous and beautiful places in the world will be shown as part of a world film festival tour coming to Salisbury at the end of this month.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival (BMFF) takes viewers around the world with some of the best adventure and mountain filmmakers.

BMFF is an international film competition hosted by The Banff Centre, based in the Canadian Rockies, and accepts more than 300 entries a year.

Following original screenings in the autumn, 25 award-winning films and audience favourites are selected for the world tour, which visits nearly 400 communities across 35 countries.

This year’s films include Crossing the Ice, which follows two Australians in their bid to be the first adventurers to walk unsupported from the coastline of Antarctica to the South Pole and back again.

And Wideboyz follows two British men as they spend two years in training before heading off to tackle some of the hardest off-width climbing challenges in the USA.

There are 35 screenings planned in the UK, which are expected to attract more than 16,000 adventure lovers and promise even more sold out shows than last year.

Each location has handpicked films that best match local interests, from adrenaline-raising adventure-sport shorts to longer tales of environment and culture.

The tour will be at Salisbury City Hall on March 21. A description of all the films can be found at banffuk.com, where tickets are available.
