WITH the countdown to the Christmas already begun, the city centre felt unusually quiet with the onset of persistent drizzle putting a damper on the Festive Sunday Market.
Usually bustling with shoppers, today, (Sunday, November 26) the atmosphere felt flat and it could have been any other day in the year rather than just weeks before Christmas.
Read more:The afternoon rain looked set to continue as shoppers headed inside to keep dry which left the market place looking very empty and sparse. Despite the rain and the lack of people, at least the Christmas lights still sparkled around the edges.
Few people wandered through The Maltings although Santa's Grotto remained open with some resolute families queuing to see Santa but the Old George Mall echoed a similar story, with just a few people walking by and waiting beneath shop doorways.
The entrance to the Market Walk looked inviting with the Christmas decorations even if only a few people were there to admire them.
