Now, the owner has revealed why it was time for one of the city's most-loved restaurants to close.
Director of Cactus Jacks, Joanna Kings, said that she had been at the restaurant for 22 years, so "it was time for a change".
With the restaurant closed, Joanna would like to start fostering children as a career, which she has been interested in for many years.
She said that when the site's landlords - Joseph and Ann Henry, who also own Fisherton Warehouse next door - applied for planning permission for the building, it was "the right time for me to pursue a fostering career".
The planning permission involves extending Fisherton Warehouse, at 71-73 Fisherton Street next door, into the old Cactus Jacks restaurant.
The planning application also includes converting the first floor showroom into four flats, and for the beer garden to change to private landscaped communal gardens.
A consultation process is underway and will run until April 20. To view the plans in full, click here.
