SALISBURY City brought the curtain down on an entertaining 2008/2009 season with a comfortable 3-1 win over Swindon Town in the Wiltshire Premier Shield.
Fielding a strong side, City went into the lead in the 16th minute when captain Mike Fowler headed home a Rob Sinclair corner.
Sinclair thought he had doubled City’s lead on the half hour mark, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
However, just before half-time, City did get their second goal when top scorer Charlie Griffin netted from close range.
Sinclair made it 3-0 in the second half and ended the tie as a contest when he volleyed home a sublime effort in the 56th minute. Swindon did rally as City took their foot off the pedal and they pulled a goal back just after the hour when Lloyd Macklin was on hand to fire past James Bittner in the City net. However, the comeback was too little too late and the Whites held on to register their second consecutive Wiltshire Premier Shield.
