PARENTS and children across Wiltshire are waiting to see how a planned boycott of SATS, the tests Year 6 pupils are due to sit in just over two weeks, will affect them.
On Wednesday the National Association of Head Teachers and the National Union of Teachers announced a national poll of members had led to a vote to boycott the tests. It is not yet known how many schools across Wiltshire will be affected, as teachers decide whether to join in with the industrial action.
The two unions say the tests cause unnecessary stress for pupils and are unfairly used to rank schools against each other. Teachers have said they will refuse to administer the tests, which grade aptitude in English and mathematics, by refusing to open the test paper deliveries.
A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “We can't speculate as to how many schools will be affected, or which schools. We will be issuing advice quickly as possible to teachers, parents and schools.”
