FIREFIGHTERS were called to a landfill site near Verwood after a fire spread across two acres of rubbish on Saturday morning.
At 3.11am fire crews were called to Blue Haze landfill site near Ebblake Industrial Estate.
Some 35 fire fighters from Hampshire and Dorset were involved in tackling the blaze, which was extinguished fully at 6pm on Saturday evening.
A spokesman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said smoke, which was visible in the local area for several hours while the fire was burning, was not believed to have presented any threat to health.
He added: “However, members of the public in the area should be aware of the possible effects of smoke, particularly on the elderly, young and those with existing medical conditions such as asthma.”
