Firefighters dealing with a car fire on the A31 near Ringwood
THERE were delays of more than an hour on the A31 westbound this afternoon after a car fire at Picket Post.
The A31 westbound was fully blocked as a result but both lanes are now open.
Congestion was back to the M27 at Cadnam at one point.
Fire engines from Ringwood and Ferndown attended the scene along with police.
The fire service was called at 12.53pm to reports of a fire just after the Burley service station.
The vehicle in a layby was extinguished using foam.
An area of heath also caught fire which was extinguished using hose reel jets.
An eyewitness said the driver had managed to stop the car in a layby after noticing smoke.
The car was destroyed by the fire.
