SALISBURY MP John Glen has a new job after being appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Business Secretary Sajid Javid.
The role is the lowest rung on the government hierarchy and is an unpaid position. Mr Glen will help prepare the Secretary of State for questions in the House of Commons and act as a point of reference for backbench MPs wanting to pass on ideas or comments.
It is a similar role to the one he fulfilled working at the Department of Local Government and Communities under Eric Pickles.
Mr Javid, formerly the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, was appointed Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills following the Conservative victory in the General Election.
Mr Glen said: "“Having grown up in a small family horticultural business in rural Wiltshire and then worked as a Strategy Consultant in multiple industries for Accenture for 13 years before entering politics, I have had significant exposure to how businesses work and what they need.
"I hope my business background will allow me to make a useful contribution in this exciting new role.
"Because of Conservatives’ business policy over the last five years there are now 750,000 more businesses now than in 2010 and over 2 million more people in employment.
"This is a strong record and I am looking forward to playing my part in building on this solid foundation.
"Over the next five years we as the Conservative Party have an opportunity to show we are the real party of working people.
"Businesses play a fundamental in giving people the security, purpose and dignity everyone deserves by giving people the means to support themselves and their families.
"I am thrilled with my new role and excited about what we will do build a society where everyone has the opportunity of a good life.”
