BUDDING musicians in Salisbury have been given the opportunity to get involved in a project that is designed to help them find their way into the music industry.
Salisbury Arts Centre is offering young people a new series of free music development opportunities in popular music forms thanks to funding from the Wiltshire Music Service.
This support has enabled the arts centre to launch a number of workshops and performance sessions.
Simon Morris, the arts centre engagement manager, said: “It is just a toe in the water at the moment but it is very exciting for us.
“There are so many people in the area who have the potential to make it into the music industry but for whatever reason don’t have the resources to do it.”
As well as the informal sessions taking place in Salisbury Arts Centre, a series of outreach workshops will start in the New Year.
This will provide music participation opportunities directly in the Bemerton Heath and Tidworth communities.
He added: “The project is being overseen by the arts centre’s youth steering group, the Upstarts, and participants in the workshop programme can join the planning team to get actively involved in directing the shape of future sessions.”
The next free session will be a workshop about the music industry and career advice on Saturday, December 20 from 2pm to 5pm at the arts centre.
In addition they are also launching a new song writing class for young people in a spring workshops programme.
Led by local professional singer-songwriter Louise Jordan, it will explore popular music genres and create new compositions, with performance and recording opportunities.
