A BMW burst into flames on the A303 moments after the driver realised there was an electrical fault and pulled over. Emergency services were called just after 7pm on Saturday to find the car well alight in the eastbound carriageway between Solstice Park and the junction to Amesbury Road.
A Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said the fire started as a result of an electrical fault in the engine compartment.
The road was cleared and reopened by about 8.30pm.
