Is it not time for the Regional Rivers Boards to be set up again to deal, properly and effectively, with the flooding problem.

If the Environment Agency persists in its policy to not dredge rivers, clear weeds and reeds, allowing free passage of water and to pile up dredged silt onto river banks, then the responsibility should be placed elsewhere.

So often you see the large drainage pipes at the sides of rivers totally blocked with mud and vegetation making it impossible for them to do the job intended.

If the 17th-century monks realised the importance of this work, then why is it so difficult for the Environment Agency to understand these basic principles?

The Environment Agency must therefore bear some responsibility for the misery and destruction caused by flooding.
